The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has lamented the rate by which large quantities of fake and adulterated drugs, supplements, oil and beverages are being circulated in Abia State.

This was contained in a statement released by the agency on Wednesday as it cautioned members of the public against consuming the fake Goya olive oil , unregistered drugs, expired vitamin supplements as well as adulterated beverages currently in circulation in the state.

During an inspection visit to the popular Ariaria International Market in Aba, officials of the agency, said they discovered alteration in the dates of expired drugs as some which had expired six months ago have had their dates re-written using a handmade machine.

According to NAFDAC, some of the perpetrators are on the run but their shops have been sealed.

The NAFDAC coordinator in Abia State, Innocent Okeke said the agency will not relent in its efforts to rid the state of fake drugs.

Mr. Okeke also appealed to the state government for a synergy with the market management to flush out the criminals.
