Over the recent kidnapping incidents that have been occurring nationwide, the House of Representatives has expressed its worry over the alarming rate.
Lawmakers have urged the federal government to declare a statement of emergency over the issue.
The representatives observed that the rate of kidnapping in Nigeria escalated tremendously in the last 10 years.
Kidnappings of people of all age groups and socio-economic status has tarnished the image of the country.
It can be recalled that the US warned its citizens on visiting some Nigerian states.
Kidnappings tend to ward off potential investors and tourists, and these have negative effects on the economy.
A house member Hon. Gabriel Babatunde Kolawole representing Akoko South East/ South West federal constituency, raised a point of order and sponsored a motion under matters of urgent public importance.
According to him, “Nigeria is now seen as the kidnapping capital of the world.”
