A statement from Thailand’s Royal Palace has confirmed that monarch, Bhumibol Adulyadej has passed away at the age of 88. Bhumibol Adulyadej ascended the throne in 1946 and until his death was the longest reigning monarch.
The statement did not disclose his cause of death but the Thai King had been admitted to the hospital for a dialysis treatment. He had a history of liver and kidney diseases which forced him to maintain a low profile long before his death.
Bhumibol Adulyadej was a respected constitutional monarch who was the only form of stability in a nation where political instability has seen 19 coups so far.
