Cuban Leader, Fidel Castro Dies At 90

Cuba’s long-time leader and revolutionary, Fidel Castro has passed away at the age of 90 after years of ill-health. Castro reportedly died in a hospital in Havana on Friday at around 7pm local time.

His death was confirmed by his brother Raul Castro, who took over power in 2008 as Fidel began to struggle with his health problems. Castro, who was a student activist was swept to power on the back of the Cuban revolution in 1959 after he teamed up with Che Guevara to depose President Batista.

Castro’s Presidency was characterized by economic blockages from the US and he survived attempts by the US government to overthrow him, the most famous of which was the Bay Of Pigs fiasco.
