Liverpool Striker Danny Ings Suffers Season-Ending Injury

English premiership side Liverpool have been handed a blow as one of their strikers has sustained an injury which has ended his season prematurely.

After being out for the best part of 12 months following an ACL tear in his left knee last October, Danny Ings, has suffered another injury to the right knee this time.

The 24-year-old was injured last week after coming off the bench late against Tottenham in Liverpool’s 2-1 EFL Cup win at Anfield.

It was his first appearance at home for 13 months and the ex-Burnley player got injured on in a tackle and now needs surgery on his damaged cartilage.

Liverpool confirmed that Ings will now travel to London for the operation on his right knee.

In a statement on their website, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp expressed his sadness about the setback.

He said: “To say we are gutted would be an understatement; he is such a great boy and has worked so hard that he deserves better luck than this.

“It is typical of Danny’s personality, on and off the pitch, that he picked up this injury to his knee when courageously trying to win the ball back for his team by making a tackle. But it is this same personality that means he will come back as good and as strong from this latest setback as he has done in the past.

“I’m told the likely lay off is anywhere from between seven to nine months. He is mentally strong, physically strong and will have the very best treatment and rehab possible to make sure when he returns he is ready to play for us at the level we know he is capable of.”

Ings has been playing for Liverpool’s U23 team this season in order to regain fitness, and has impressed by scoring 7 times in 4 games.
