Millions Of South Koreans Demand President Park’s Resignation

Over one million people have taken to the streets of Seoul, South Korea’s capital to demand the resignation of their President, Park Geun-hye. The protests calling for her resignation are hinged on her role in a recent scandal which saw the President’s friend, Choi Soon-sil arrested for behind-the-scenes dealings in Park’s administration.

Choi-Soon-sil is thought to have influenced government policy, the appointment of aides, and even allegedly extorted millions of dollars from corporate entities for her foundations.

The revelations were made in October and since then, thousands of protesters have come out every week to demand that the President step down. President Park has offered public apologies for her role in the scandal twice but many South Koreans are far from convinced in what will come down as one of the biggest political uprisings in recent time.
