The Nigerian police Force has said over N20 billion is needed to cover the insurance claims of over 3,000 officers who lost their lives during active service.
Mr Isyaiku Mohammed, the Force Insurance Officer gave this figure while appearing before the ad-hoc Committee of the House of Representatives investigating alleged illegalities between government officials and insurance companies.
The lawmakers expressed shock over the amount owed as they described the figures as extremely high and disturbing
Honourable Emmanuel Oghene, a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) member, representing Amuwo Odofin Constituency, Lagos State, while commenting on the figures listed as outstanding needed to clear the insurance claims of late police officials, said it was shocking to hear the amount, adding that the money is outrageous.
Meanwhile the committee said it will continue discussions on the issue during sitting next week including other pressing issues from Federal Inland Revenue Service FIRS, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC and others.
