THE Rivers State Police Command has said that the armed robbers killed during a shootout with security operatives planned to attack Arik Airline office at Eastern Garden in Port Harcourt.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Nnamdi Omoni, said in a statement issued on Tuesday that contrary to an earlier report that the hoodlums planned to attack a plane belonging to the firm, the suspects never contemplated to attack an airplane belonging to Arik.

Omoni explained that the hoodlums were only planning to attack the organisation’s cash office and not a plane.

“It has become necessary to put the records straight and state that the (earlier) report is not correct.

“The robbers never contemplated attacking an airplane at the Port Harcourt Airport or anywhere at all.

“Rather the planned attack was to have been carried out in the company’s cash office and not at the airport.

“It is pertinent to place on record that the Port Harcourt Airport is adequately protected and secured.

“We further crave the indulgence of the media to always confirm their stories before they are made public, as such sensational reporting is capable of misleading the public and create unnecessary tension,” Omoni said.
