At least 35 people have been confirmed dead following a train accident in Norther Iran. Four carriages were derailed while two caught fire when a train which had broken down was run into by another train.
The incident occurred in a remote part of Iran in the early hours of Friday as officials say the intercity train which burst into flames was grounded as a result of mechanical faults. The remoteness of the accident location has hampered rescue efforts as the death toll is largely expected to rise.
Over 70 people were reportedly injured in the accident with many of them receiving medical attention.
