The Borno State Police Commissioner, Damian Chukwu, has confirmed the death of two persons in an explosion involving a suicide bomber near Muna garage on Wednesday night.

The blast also destroyed one of the vehicles parked near the scene along Maiduguri-Gambouru/Ngala road, which was recently re-opened by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai.

The spokesman of the State Police Command, Victor Isuku, also confirmed the incident in a statement to newsmen in Maiduguri, the state capital yesterday.
According to the statement: “At about 21:06 hours of Wednesday, an explosion occurred at Muna garage along Gambouru/Ngala road in Maiduguri. Two persons, including the suicide bomber died on the spot while a Mercedes Benz car with registration number AX 571 ABJ parked by the roadside was damaged by the impact of the explosion.”

He said that normalcy had returned to the affected areas.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Customs Services (NCS) yesterday donated 11,517 bags of rice to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state.

According to the NCS, the donation was to alleviate the suffering of the displaced persons as they return to their communities.

While presenting the items to Governor Kashim Shettima at the Government House, the Acting Comptroller General of NSC, Sanusi Umar, said peace would only be sustained in the IDPs camps and liberated communities if hunger was eradicated.
