“We’re Feeling What Not Having Hope Feels Like” Michelle Obama

The first lady of the U.S, Michelle Obama has spoken of the post-election feeling in the White House, comparing it to a situation of ‘not having hope”. Despite President Barack and Michelle campaigning earnestly for the Democratic candidate, Hillary Clinton, the Republican candidate, Donald Trump won the Presidential election.

The tough-talking, controversial businessman has been roundly criticized for his divisive ideas and hateful language. Michelle Obama spoke to Talk Show host Oprah Winfrey in her last interview before she leaves the White House in January.

Now we’re feeling what not having hope feels like,” she said.

She went on to question Trump’s suitability for the job and stressed the need for stability in the country.

“Having a grown-up in the White House who can say to you in times of crisis, ‘Hey it’s going to be ok, let’s remember the good things we have, let’s look at the future, let’s look at all the things that we’re building…” she says.

“All of this is important for our kids to stay focused and to feel like their work isn’t in vain, that their lives aren’t in vain. What do we do if we don’t have hope?”
