The La Liga club backed the Portuguese star, and demanded that he be shown the ‘utmost respect’, claiming that the Portuguese superstar is up to date on his taxes.

Here is Real Madrid’s full statement published on their official website :

In view of the stories published over recent days and in consideration of the certificate issued by the Spanish Tax Agency which confirms that our player Cristiano Ronaldo is up to date with all of his tax obligations, Real Madrid C. F. call for the utmost respect to be shown towards Cristiano Ronaldo, whose conduct has been absolutely exemplary throughout all of his time at our club.

The ‘Spanish Tax Agency certificate’ that Real Madrid refer to in their statement has a supplement that explains the revoking of the certificate’s validity if new information is discovered by the authorities.

In light of Spanish newspaper El Confidencial’s revelations, that ‘new information’ could very well be the alleged €150 million that Ronaldo reportedly stashed in Ireland-based company, Multisports & Image Management Limited.

Both he and Jose Mourinho have moved swiftly to deny rumours of tax evasion, with the firm run by their agent Jorge Mendes, ‘Gestifute’, publishing a statement that decried the “insidious, disrespectful and threatening” media reports, claiming that the duo “fully their obligations regarding Spanish and British authorities.”
