33 Prisoners Killed In Riot In Brazilian Jail

Just a week after 56 prisoners were killed during a riot in a prison in Brazil, 33 prisoners have been killed today in yet another riot in Northern Brazil.

Prison Officials told local media that a group of prisoners managed to break the locks on their cells in the early hours of the morning and invade a separate wing of the building, which is in the city of Boa Vista. The killings have been attributed to the drug gang known as the PCC.

The PCC is reputed to be one of the largest in Brazil, earning $32m a year in drug sales, with almost half its 13,000 members in jail in Sao Paulo State.
