Students In The Gambia Boycott Exams As They Call On Jammeh To Step Down

President Yahya Jammeh announced on Wednesday that he would stay in power until May despite calls from international agencies for him to step down.

Jammeh, who had earlier accepted election results which saw him lose to Adama Barrow in December 1 has now rejected the election results. He appealed the election at the country’s Supreme Court which eventually ruled that they were not enough Supreme Court Justices to give a judgment.

The BBC has reported that students and lecturers at the University of The Gambia have launched an exam boycott until President Jammeh steps down.

One of the students was quoted as saying, “Our families are very concerned about our safety but we have a moral obligation for our country.”
