3 Killed In Owerri Bank Robbery

Three people have been confirmed dead while several others injured including a police officer  in a bank robbery incident that occurred on Wednesday at a Zenith bank branch in Owerri, the Imo state capital.

According to eyewitness accounts, the hoodlums numbering about twelve stormed the bank at about 2:00 pm, overpowered the security operatives and shot sporadically into the air to scare customers and passersby away.

It was gathered that the robbers made away with an undisclosed amount of money as they killed 3-yet-to-be identified persons in the operation that lasted several hours.

 

In his remark, the Spokesperson of the State Police Command, Andrew Enwerem, who confirmed the incident stated that the command is already on top of the situation and all the criminals will soon be arrested and made to face the law.

He added that one of the armed robbers who was shot by the police, as well as other people who were wounded at the scene, have been transferred to the Federal Medical Centre Owerri for immediate treatment.
