Man Absconds With Customers ATM Card, Withdraws N1,049,545

The Abia State Po­lice Command has paraded one Eze Udo, who allegedly snatched an Automated Teller Machine ( ATM) card of a bank customer whom he had volun­teered to assist during a bank transaction in Umuahia.

According to the Commissioner of Po­lice, Mr. Leye Oyebade who paraded the sus­pect, the victim had dif­ficulties while attempt­ing to withdraw money with his ATM card due to network failure, hence the suspect vol­unteered to assist him.

But to the dismay of the victim, the suspect as soon as he collected the ATM card fled with it and later went to an­other bank where he allegedly withdrew the sum of N1, 049, 545.00 from the victim’s ac­count.

He was later picked up, and 13 ATM cards of different banks re­covered from him.

Although, Police said he had confessed to the crime during interrogation, the sus­pect however, refused to respond to ques­tions thrown at him by newsmen.

Paraded also was one Ugochukwu Ude of Port Harcourt Road, Aba who was alleg­edly arrested with a stolen Mercedes Benz car belonging to Tobias Ogoke of the Assem­blies of God church, Abayi Aba.

The car was sto­len from where it was parked while the victim was in a church service.

Police said the sus­pect who was seen standing by the side of the car along Cemetery Road Aba, upon sight­ing a police patrol team took to his heels but was later apprehended fol­lowing a hot chase.

His arrest led to the arrest of another mem­ber of his gang, one Chukwuma Ononogbo, and the recovery of three other cars alleg­edly stolen by the syn­dicate.
