The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Damien Chukwu, said the gangs had been terrorising Maiduguri before they met their waterloo.

He said all the suspects would be arraigned before the court and diligently prosecuted.

Chukwu said both Ali and Umar “admitted to hypnotising their victims.”

He added that the suspects made useful statements to aid their prosecution “while search for the third member of the syndicate continued.”

He added that the command had smashed another gang of nine notorious thieves in Maiduguri following a tip-off from the public.

The suspected thieves, he said, engaged in theft of phones, handbags, briefcases and other valuables.

He said the command also arrested a gang of seven men who specialised in theft of tricycles in the Dala ward area of Maiduguri.

He added that the gang had confessed to the crime and that the police had dismantled and recovered stolen spare parts and stolen tricycles from the suspects.

He asked the members of the public to partner with the police to make the society free of crimes.
