Pay Us Arrears In 2Weeks, Or Risk Indefinite Strike- Health Workers Threaten FMC Katsina

Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) in Federal Medical Centre Katsina has given the management of Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Katsina a two week ultimatum effective 2nd March, 2017, to pay their outstanding arrears and allowances or risk indefinite strike.

The unions comprising National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Health Workers Union, Senior Staff Association of Universities, Teaching Hospitals, Research Institutes and Associated Institutions (SSATHURAI) and National Association of Allied Health Professionals (NUAPH) at a special congress yesterday, unveiled five action plan if their demands were not met before 16th March, 2017.

At the congress presided over by Isah Adejoh, chairman of FMC Katsina branch of NANNM, the union said their demands include restoration of payment of teaching allowances to officers on CONHESS 7 and 8 which was reportedly stopped in May 2014; payment of 2015 and 2016 promotion arrears which should have been paid since January 2016; payment of ‘first 28 days’ allowance to some of their members and correction of alleged errors in many promotion letters of last year.
