Barring last minutes changes, the House of Representatives would this week beam its searchlight on the Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS) over alleged abuse of the Public Procurement Act (PPA).
The Guardian learnt that those pushing for the probe of the Mr. Babatunde Fowler led FIRS have tendered evidence aimed at compelling the lower legislative chamber to revisit the issue.
The office of the Speaker have been inundated with key documents to substantiate the claim against the FIRS which includes the award of a Value Added Tax (VAT) Automation contract worth billions of naira, to a firm, five days after it was incorporated.
Documents made available to The Guardian reveal that the firm was registered on December 2, 2016, while the contract letter from the FIRS was dated December 7, 2016.
Under the deal, the firm would be entitled to one percent of the total revenue collected through its platform, with its engagement as a consultant.
The contract award letter with reference no. FIRS/PD/15/12/16/378, signed by the Director of Procurement, Aisha Obomeghie on behalf of the executive chairman, stated that the duration of the contract is one year from the date of deployment.
The tax agency’s Head of Corporate Communications, Mr. Wahab Gbadomosi, declined to respond to all enquires sent to his electronic mails and Whatsapp accounts even though they showed they were delivered.
His phones on the other hand were forwarding all calls which remained unanswered or returned.
