Afenifere Lauds Fayose For Improving Education In Ekiti

The pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere has commended Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, for introducing incentives to improve education in the state. The Secretary General of the group, Sehinde Arogbofa, made the commendation yesterday in a statement in Akure.

According to him, Fayose’s feat was evident in the brilliant performance of the students, who are currently representing the country at an international schools’ debate competition in Singapore.

Arogbofa stressed that the governor’s incentive made it possible for “Ekiti State to be selected by the presidency to represent the country at the debate, which had four secondary school students from the state representing Nigeria.”

He listed other feats recorded by the Fayose’s administration as producing the best student in the Genius Illumina International Competition, first position in the National Junior Water Price Competition in Sokoto State and in the 2016 edition of Inter-State Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN)’s National Quiz Competition.

Others are overall best student in the 2016 STAN, the Junior Engineers Technologists and Scientists (JETS), Inter-State Science Quiz Competition, the ANCOPPS South West Debate Competition and the best in the March 2017 Young Nigerian Scientist Presidential Award held in Abuja.

Meanwhile, former Governor of the state, Kayode Fayemi has sued the state House of Assembly for issuing a warrant of arrest against him.

He urged a Federal High Court in Ado Ekiti, in a suit filed by his counsel, Rafiu Balogun, to set aside the warrant of arrest and pay him N500m for the embarrassment caused him by the action.

Fayemi, who is Minister of Solid Minerals, was alleged to have misappropriated N852millio belonging to the state’s Universal Basic Education (SUBEB).The lawmakers also accused Fayemi of fraud in the award of contracts during his administration from 2010 to 2014.

However, Fayemi held that the assembly did not raise a panel of inquiry to investigate him before finding him guilty, adding that he gave the assembly a comprehensive handover note before his appointment as a minister.
