Alleged rapist granted N1 million bail

A 25-year-old man, Abiodun Adelabu, who allegedly raped his neighbour’s 14-year-old daughter, was on Wednesday released on N1m bail on the orders of an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Davies Abegunde, granted the accused bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum.

The accused, a factory worker, who resides at 30, Tijani Alabi St., Ijegun, a suburb of Lagos, is being tried for rape.

The accused pleaded not guilty.

The accused committed the offence on March 10 at his apartment when he called the 14-year-old girl into his room on the pretext of sending her on an errand, the prosecutor, Sgt. Raphael Donny told the court.

“The accused shut the door immediately she entered and raped her; he ran away from the house after committing the crime.”

Donny said the girl later sighted the accused and alerted passers-by who apprehended him.

The offence, according to the prosecutor, contravenes Section 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The case was adjourned until May 22 for mention.
