Bayelsa Police Command Arrests Soldier, Engineer For Kidnapping

The Bayelsa Police Command, on Saturday, announced that it it arrested a serving soldier and an engineer for the April 4 kidnap of a woman in Warri.

The suspects were paraded before journalists by the Bayelsa Police Commissioner, Mr. Asuquo Amba. According to the Mr. Amba,  the suspects abducted one  Aya Beauty, 25, in Warri, Delta State, and took her to Bayelsa State where she was held captive in a hotel. The abductors then demanded a ransom of N24 million. The demanded ransom was later reduced to N11 million and N200, 000. Mr. Amba said before the suspects were arrested, the fiancée of the victim had paid the N200, 000 to the kidnappers.

The command announced that it also arrested an ex- soldier with a military pistol along Zarama Road during a stop and search operation. Mr. Amba said the suspects will be charged to court once the Police conclude investigations.
The Police Commissioner said the command has been benefiting from assistance offered by members of the public.  He explained that the command has resolved to work closely with traditional institutions, security stakeholders and Non- Governmental Organizations, youth groups and all relevant agencies to make the state secure.

Mr. Amba advised sister security agencies to ensure that dismissed officers are profiled and relieved of weapons to prevent those with criminal inclinations.
