Lagos : 2 person dead, 5 others injured in motor accident

Two female passengers were confirmed dead as they were involved in a ghastly motor accident involving a commercial bus, Lagos State, five others were rescued and taken to the hospital.

According to th spokesperson for the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Kehinde Adebayo, he said preliminary investigation conducted by the agency revealed that the commercial bus, popularly known as Danfo, with registration number KTU 479 XQ, was coming from Yaba and was speeding when the driver lost control of the vehicle.

He said, “The agency received a distress call regarding a commercial bus that accidentally caught fire at Cane village, Maryland, while on speed. The incident happened at about 2.55pm. Preliminary investigation conducted by the Emergency Response Team at the accident scene revealed that the commercial bus lost control after hitting an unknown SUV and fell on its side and caught fire.

“Five persons were rescued and attended to by a joint team of LASAMBUS and the LASEMA paramedics. Thereafter, the victims were taken to the Trauma and Burns Centre, Gbagada, for further treatment, while two other adult female passengers, burnt beyond recognition, were recovered by Lasema ERT and handed over to the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit for deposition at the morgue.”

Adebayo noted that the commercial bus had been confiscated.

The General Manager LASEMA, Mr. Adesina Tiamiyu, said proper investigation would be conducted, while advising motorists to drive with utmost care and safety as most road accidents were avoidable.
