LAUTECH Labour Unions Threaten Fresh Strike

The Joint Action Congress (JAC) of the Ladoke Akintola University (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Oyo State, has threatened to boycott duties. The fresh threat came after ending a seven-months strike action a few weeks ago.

The LAUTECH JAC comprises the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (SSANU), National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities and Association Institutions (NASU).

The chairmen of the three unions – Abimbola Alesinloye of SSANU, Tajudeen Adeagbo of NAAT and Timothy Tunwagun of NASU – disclosed this in Ibadan. SSANU’s Chairman, Alesinloye lamented the deteriorating state of the workers just as their salaries are not paid.

He disclosed that the students of the institution who are now two sessions behind their mates in other institutions and are now writing their examination could be further drawn back in their academic pursuit if urgent steps are not taken to address the situation.

The unions alleged that they are aware that both states (Oyo and Osun States did not place LAUTECH on the beneficiaries’ list of the first tranche of Paris Club Fund and is certain that LAUTECH has been deleted from the first and second list of beneficiaries of the second tranche.

They also alleged that the university’s management has become evasive in attending to the requests of the unions and completely departed from the collective agreement signed with the unions.

Alesinloye, also revealed that during the negotiations, Oyo state Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi promised to address LAUTECH issue when the state gets the Paris Club fund.
