The Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport is 96 % ready according to the Minister of state for aviation airport who said, that has been undergoing renovation for about a month now is said to be 96% complete and is scheduled to reopen on the 19th April 2017.
Hadi Sirika, the Minister of state for aviation, during a media tour disclosed that the runway was being rebuilt with new and improved technology known as the Glass Fibre Grid to give it strength and prevent it from cracking.
According to him, this is the first time that a Nigerian runway is being treated with such material and the material is 50 toners to cover the entire runway.
The runway was shut on March 8 for six weeks for its total repair and Abuja flights diverted to Kaduna pending the completion of the repair work.
