A woman was murdered while another was left injured by suspected Fulani herdsmen on Monday at Adam Village in the Mbakyor Council of the Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State.

The attack came barely a week after 10persons were murdered by suspected herdsmen in the same council area.

Sources told newsmen that the two women were working on their farms, alongside their children when the suspected herders attacked them.

“The women and their children were on their farms when the Fulanis invaded the area; they cut them with machetes, one of them died instantly while another was at the hospital,” the source said.

The Director General, Services and Administration of the council area, Mr Teryila Iorhemen, confirmed the report.

“It is true we have a case that happened this morning at Adam, located between Jato Aka and Anwanze; two women were on their farm with their children when suspected herdsmen attacked them. One of them, identified as Mbanegen Nwuase, died instantly while the other woman whose name I do not have now is critically injured and receiving treatment at the health centre at Jato Aka,” Iorhemen said.

When asked of the fate of the children, Iorhemen said, “When the incident happened the children ran away but we found them few hours ago.”

The security adviser to Governor Samuel Ortom, Col. Edward Jando (retd.), confirmed that the council DGSA sent report of the incident to him.

When contacted, the state Police Public  Relation Officer, Moses Yamu, however, said he was not awaehad yet to be briefed.
