Students returns missing purse, her reward will shock you

There is always a form of reward for every thing that is been done either good or bad. This is the story of a student of Muslim High School, Sagamu, Ogun State, identified  as Labake Samson, who returned a purse containing N18,000 and other documents to a branch of the First City Monument Bank.

The Student was rewarded with a commendation letter by the management of the bank.

She was also rewarded with N2,000 by the owner of the purse and N1,000 each from other three people for her honesty.

The 19-year-old, who spoke with our correspondent in a telephone interview on Thursday, said she was on her way home from school last week when she sighted a purse at the Isale Oko area of Sagamu.

“I picked the purse, checked it and saw N18,000 and an FCMB automated teller machine card, among other documents. I took the purse to the Sagamu branch of the bank and asked the officials to call the owner of the purse. I was surprised when a manager at the bank and the owner of the purse later came to my school to give me a commendation letter and N2,000 respectively.’’

Samson who lost her father when she was five years, said she was not tempted to keep the purse despite her financial challenges.

“Things are really hard but my mother must never hear that I stole anything. She has always told us to be God-fearing, honest and contented. It did not even cross my mind to steal the purse though I need a new school uniform, sandals and textbooks. My mother said she believed that God would take control,” she said.

Speaking to our correspondent on the telephone on Thursday, the Head of Communications, FCMB, Mr. Diran Olojo, said the bank would soon announce a reward for Samson.

“The girl should definitely be celebrated. No doubt about that at all. What she did is extremely commendable considering the challenges in the country. We will ensure we reinforce the message to her and her peers that she did the right thing.”
