The indigenes of Ohokobe Mbaocha Ndume, Ibeku, in Umuahia North Local Government area of Abia State, have staged a protest to demand explanation about the death of their 
daughter, Miss Happiness Emehara, who died at the Hotel Burj Li located on Okwuta Ibeku road.
It was learnt that late Emehara was a staff of the hotel until her death on May 31, 2017.
Speaking on behalf of the irate indigenes of the community, Mr. Iyke Ogbuehi said they were protesting to demand explanation from the management of the hotel on what led to Emehara’s demise.
Ogubehi vowed that the community would not leave any stone unturned until they unravel the mystery behind their daughter’s death.
He disclosed that the incident had been reported to Zone 9 Police Command in Abia State.
He said, “We are here to demand explanation on what caused the death of our daughter, Happiness Emehara, in the hotel because since the demise of our daughter, the management of the hotel has not come out to tell the community what led to her death.
“The police are aware and have not done anything to ascertain the mystery behind our daughter’s death.”
A female staff of the hotel, Favour Owom, who witnessed the incident, said she went up to give her colleague a tooth paste to use, but on getting there, she saw late Happiness on the floor in front of the bathroom holding a shower handle.
Owom said on seeing Happiness lying on the floor, she alerted her colleagues who rushed her to a hospital, where she was confirmed dead.
She said, “That day was the day my colleague asked me to help her with tooth paste. As I entered the room, I saw Happiness lying on the floor, holding the shower handle. So, I started shouting and our colleagues rushed and carried her to the hospital, where they said she was dead.”
Another eyewitness, who gave his name as Uche Kanu, claimed he lodged in the hotel. He said he heard people shouting and when he rushed out to take glimpse of what was happening, he saw a staff of the hotel taking the deceased to the hospital.
Kanu said when he got there and inquired what happened, he was told that the deceased was electrocuted while bathing with the shower handle.
He said, “I was upstairs when I heard some people shouting ‘off the light, off the light.’ As I got to the scene and asked of what happened, I was told that the deceased was electrocuted while bathing with the shower handle.”
Efforts to reach the Public Relations Officer of the Police Command, Zone 9, proved abortive. But a senior police officer within the zone said investigation had commenced to unravel the cause of the young lady.
Meanwhile, the management of Hotel Burj Li could not be reached for comments as its gate was under lock and key with palm fronds hung on the gate when our correspondent visited the hotel.
