APC suspends six of its members over gross misconduct

The Enugu State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress has suspended six members of the party over alleged misconduct by its executive committee.

This was made known by the APC chairman in Enugu state, Dr. Ben Nwoye, informed journalists on Sunday who said that five of the suspended members were investigated, and indicted, for making false allegations against the state executive committee of the party in a petition they forwarded to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

The members, who were suspended for a year over the alleged false petition, are Mr. Valentine Nnadozie, Barr. Ejike Ugwu, Mr. Okenwa Onyekachi, Rev. Jonas Onuorah, and Mr. Elijah Ngene.

The sixth person, Barr. Valentine Ikpa, was suspended for one month for a different reason.

Nwoye said the suspended party members have been barred from participating in any activity of the APC in Enugu until the expiration of their suspensions.

Shedding further light on the development, Nwoye explained that a committee set up to investigate the conduct of the suspended members recommended their outright expulsion from the party.

“They (suspended members) opted to paint the party in a bad light – they organised themselves and filed a petition in the Office of the SGF seeking to dissolve the executive committee of the APC in Enugu State.

“Interestingly, the individuals they submitted the petition to are Federal Government officials, not national party officials.

“In what amounted to an insult on the APC in this country, they asked the Office of the SGF to invite the leadership of the party in Enugu State to appear before it to respond to the false allegations they made,” Nwoye said.
