There is also favour in doing thr right thing, this was the story of Labake Samson, a SS2 pupil of Muslim High School, Sagamu, Ogun State, who returned a lost purse to its owner. In apprecistion to this act.
Graduates of the English Department of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Class 89 set, have presented cash to the young lady.
The presentation followed a report by our correspondent that Samson returned a purse containing N18,000 cash and Automated Teller Machine cards she found in the Isale Oko area of the town. The owner had presented her with N2,000.
Four members of the group, who visited her school on Friday, said the decision to reward the teenager was as a result of her rare display of honesty, despite her economically disadvantaged background.
A member of the group, Mr. Adebayo Adeleke, said Samson had brought glory to the school, and enjoined other pupils to emulate her.
“Poverty is not an excuse for corruption. Labake’s action has shown us that you can have good values that are so set and cannot be compromised. She has restored our hope in our youths and in our country. We are going to mentor her. She has brought this school into limelight. She did not lose anything but she is now known around the world,’’ he said.
Another member of the group, Mrs. Tolulope Dawodu, said the group was impressed with Samson’s wisdom and integrity.
“She has lost her father and she is needy. Yet, this girl chose to be honest. We found that incredible and decided to encourage her and her school. Her actions are comforting because this is a time when male pupils molest and rape female pupils and people stand by and record. Values have been thrown to the dogs. We hope that she will continue this way,” she said.
Commending the group which also includes Mrs. Ivy Onuorah and Mr. Bayo Fabiyi, the Vice Principal of the school, Mrs. Olubimpe Yinusa, said that Labake and the school would not let them down.
