Gunmen kill Police officer, two siblings on way their to bury their uncle

A policeman and his two siblings have been shot dead by some suspected robbers along a road in Benin, Edo State.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the victims were taking their deceased uncle to Benin, the state capital, for burial on Sunday when the robbers attacked them.

The cop, who was reportedly armed, was said to have engaged the gunmen, during which he and his siblings were killed.

A cousin of the victims, Alex, who shared the story on Twitter along with the picture of the policeman, said the uncle had died a few days earlier.

The relative, with the Twitter handle, @ALEX_SMARTT, wrote, “Last week, I lost my uncle. Upon bringing his remains home, they were attacked and three of my cousins were shot to death by robbers.

“The guy in uniform (was) one of my cousins who were attacked and shot to death while bringing home the corpse of my uncle.”

Alex, in another tweet, lamented the loss, saying, “within a week, I lost four young and healthy people.”

However, Alex had yet to reply to a message sent to him by our correspondent, requesting further details on the incident.

Another Twitter user, @I_am_AbdulAxis, also shared the story, urging Alex to take solace in God.

“The young police officer was killed with two of his siblings by some armed robbers along Benin road. The mobile police officer and his two siblings were taking their uncle’s remains for burial when the robbers killed them during a gun battle,” he tweeted.

The Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Nkombe, promised to get back to our correspondent with comment, but he had yet to do so as of press time.
