National Universities Commission to introduce new curriculum

A  curriculum of programmes to be used for the proposed West African Institute of Migration Studies will be established in Toga, Kebbi State by the National Universities Commission.

This was disclosed by the NUC Secretary, Prof Abubakar Rasheed, during a meeting with the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Mohammed Babandede, in Abuja.

The meeting was to finalise the take-off of the Institute of Migration, which is a partnership between the NUC and the NIS.

The NUC boss said the two arms would work together to promote migration studies in Nigeria  for the benefits of the West African sub-region.

He said, “Our role is to work closely with the NIS to see to the take-off of the proposed West Africa Institute for Migration Management Studies that will be based in Tuga, Kebbi State. The NUC will ensure that programmes of studies around migration are brought into the curriculum.

“The universities that the institute will be affiliated to would be both from outside and within Nigeria to enhance the concept of cross-border education, which is being tested first in Nigeria.”

The Customs boss said the institute would check migration issues and assist neighbouring countries in tackling their migration challenges.
