The Police Command in Benue State has began investigation into rape case of a 13-year-old Almajiri in Darazo Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect, who was said to have committed the crime sometime in 2016, allegedly gave the Almajiri boy, Umar Ali, N40 not to disclose the matter to anyone.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Command, Haruna Mohammed, in a statement on Saturday, stated that since the incident happened, it was not reported to the police until May 17 at about 4 pm.
He said, “Preliminary investigation revealed that the incident happened sometime in 2016.It was allegedly perpetrated by a nail cutter whose identity is yet to be ascertained.
“The victim developed a strange illness and his stomach got swollen. He was taken to General Hospital, Darazo, for treatment but his condition did not improve and he has now been referred to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, for advanced medical attention.
“The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, Garba Baba Umar, has directed the assistant commissioner, State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case for discreet investigation and efforts are being intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspect in order to bring him to justice.”
