Tragic Accident Happens While Man Teaches His Kids About Gun Safety

A man who was trying teach his kids about gun safety, has ended up shooting his daughter dead in the process.
Eric Hummel, a 33-year-old man, was trying to teach his two boys about gun safety when he fired the weapon at Olivia without realising it had a bullet in it at a home in Hobart, Ohio, on the evening of June 10.
Metro UK reports that she later died in hospital.
Police have released the tragic 911 call the man made after accidentally shooting his nine-year-old daughter.
In the audio clip, Hummel can be heard in panic as he talks to the operator. He says: ‘I had my gun and I pulled the trigger and I didn’t realise there was a bullet in there and I just shot my daughter. Oh god. Oh my god no. Oh my god no.’
The operator suggests he performs CPR while awaiting emergency services.
Hummel continues: ‘I know CPR. Shall I press on her chest? She’s got blood, man, everywhere. Oh my god.’

He then calls out to his son and asks him to let the emergency responders in their house. He says: ‘Make sure that back door’s open okay? Help them come up here.’
Olivia was shot in the head with a 9mm semi-automatic, reports the Chicago Tribune.
He had previously told his children ‘not to ever play with it because it can kill someone’.
Hummel was arrested and charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in death, battery resulting in death to a person less than 14-years-old, reckless homicide and two counts of neglect of a dependent.
He faces 40 years in prison on the first charge alone.
Lt. James Gonzales, of the Hobart Police Department, said: ‘This event has impacted each and every officer and civilian staff member at the police department.’
Hummel appeared in court today. His next appearance is scheduled for August 24.
