Gunmen Kill Vice Principal During School Hour

The Vice Principal of a school in Akwa Ibom State has been tragically killed by unknown persons who stormed his school to wreck havoc.
 
Unidentified gunmen have killed the Vice Principal of Community Secondary School, Nkek, Mr. Aniekeme Brown Essien, in the Ukanafun Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, The Punch reports.
It was learnt that Essien was shot on Wednesday morning around 11:48 in the school premises, by armed men, said to be led by the leader of a wanted criminal gang in the area.
It was gathered that the gunmen entered the school in a commando-like style and opened fire on the VP, who died on the spot.
Students were said to have run helter skelter as they wept uncontrollably over the gruesome murder of their teacher.
The slain head of the school is said to have received a letter, a few days ago from the gunmen, demanding N1m or he would be killed.
It was further gathered that the gang is the same that shot dead Paragi, one of the most popular youth leaders in the area a month ago.
It was learnt that since 2015, Ukanafun LGA, once known for peace, suddenly became a flashpoint, owing to conflicts and leadership tussle, resulting in killings of citizens.
Among those killed were former Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, late Obong Okon Uwah, immediate past Secretary of Ukanafun Local Government Transition Committee, Mr. Ime Atakpa and a lawyer, Barr. Udeme Etukudo.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Chukwu Ikechukwu, who confirmed the incident, added that the police are on the trail of the criminal gang.
He said, “We are on the trail of the criminal gang.”
