Diarrhea kills three person in Kebbi State

The Kebbi State government has confirmed the death of three persons due to an outbreak of diarrhea in Kardi village in Birnin Kebbi Local Government area.

Abdul Karin Abubakar, the Community Health Officer at the Primary Health Center in the area, said the three deaths were out of 160 patients on admission at the center.

He said that five other persons whose cases were severe had been referred to Sir Yahaya Memorial Specialist Hospital, while 147 others had been discharged after treatment.

Alhaji Usman Ibrahim, the Vice Chairman of Birnin Kebbi Local Government, delivered drugs worth N350,000 to the center.

“The outbreak was unfortunate and we felt sad over the deaths so far recorded and these drugs for your treatment are to be issued freely and no patient should pay for the drugs,” Usman said.

He called on the people in the affected area to avoid self medication and maintain clean environment, assuring that the victims in Gwadangaji would also be provided medical assistance.

Usman commiserated with the families of the deceased and the entire people of Kardi over the incident.

He urged the people to ensure the spread of the epidemic was controlled.

The Director of Health in the local government, Nura Hassan, urged residents in the area to keep their surroundings clean and to construct pit latrines to stop open defecation.

The Kardi Village Head, Fodio Bashar, commended the council and authorities of Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi, for their quick response, financial and medical assistance to the victims.
