Another female student declared missing at Adeyemi College in Ondo (Pictured)

Barely one month after two female students of the Adeyemi College of Education (ACE), Ondo, in Ondo State were declared missing and were later found dead, another female student of the institution has been declared missing again.

Miss Oluwaseun Mary Olaniyan, a 100 level student of the Department of History at Adeyemi College, was announced missing by her close friends from the campus on Wednesday after she failed to show up in her apartment.

According to a close her friend who pleaded anonymity while speaking with our correspondent in a phone chat, Miss Olaniyan left the campus on September 1st, 2017 to visit an unnamed male colleague but did not return back to the hostel.

“She [Mary, as popularly called] left us in the room that evening to pay a visit to another friend but unfortunately, she didn’t return and we don’t know the reason.”

“We have tried all mobile lines but none is connecting, please help us tell the whole world that the female students in this school [Adeyemi College] are no longer safe,” she said.

Sahara Reporters learned on Friday that the sudden disappearance of Miss Olaniyan on the campus has forced the Dean of the Student Affairs of the school, Mr. Olaniyi Olaluwoye, to issue a circular warning the female students to guard their movement.

Mr. Olaluwoye, in the circular obtained by our correspondent, cautioned the female students of the institution to be conscious of their movement, particularly with their male counterparts.

He said the sudden disappearance of Miss Olaniyan from the campus made it the third female students to have gone missing from the institution in a month.

“This is to remind the students in the college, particularly the female students to be extra careful and be security conscious of their movement with their male partners, specifically the so called “boy friends”. This information is necessitated by the ugly events within with the immediate environment of the college in recent time.”

“The disappearance of Miss Olaniyan Mary Oluwaseun of the Department of History [Decree 1] on the 1st of September, 2017 made the 3rd female student of the Adeyemi College that got missed between July 2017 and September, 1st, 2017.

“Our particular aspect of the missing female students is the fact that they all got missed on the ground that one was either invited by her friend or the female student told her landlord or friend that she was going to visit her boy friend only to disappear into the thin air. This is saddening and worrisome.”

“In the light of the aforementioned ugly and sad events, students are hereby reminded to be careful of their activities with their colleagues because of the complexity of human relationship is unfathomable,” he said.

Yesterday, the police in Ondo paraded three abductors of the two female students of the institution who were found dead last week.

The three culprits are; John Adenitire [known as Emir], Fisayo Fasanu [known as Abore], and Abdurafiu Tijani [known as Alfa].

Our correspondent had last week reported how the police nabbed two of the culprits and recovered the decomposed body of two female students of the institution.

One of the culprits, Tijani, confessed how they kidnapped the female students with a commercial motorcycle in front of the campus.

He added that they killed the female students and sold some of their body parts for N15 million.

“We killed them [students] and removed their breast and left arm and we sold them for N5million for a pair of left breast and left arm”.

Meanwhile, the Education Rights Campaign (ERC) has called on the school management to quickly embark on effective security measures to curb the incessant report of missing female students on the campus.

Owoyomi Damilola Owot, the Ondo State Coordinator of ERC made the call in a statement issued on Friday and obtained by Sahara Reporters.

Comrade Owot said the lingering issue of insecurity in the campus is now worrisome to the students and even the staff of the institution adding that the police should intervene and find a solution the rampant cases of missing persons in the school.

“Even the school premises are not secure. There have been several cases of theft and robbery reported in the school premises. Some hostels, like the Café female hostel, have witnessed several cases of theft in the recent days. Even a HOD’s office was been burgled while the students had to pay for the loss. All these are an indication of complete insecurity of lives and properties in the Federal-owned College,” Mr. Owot said.

“The students of the college should commence an immediate plan of action to demand adequate securities for their lives and properties. One of the reasons for the existence of a Students’ Union is to discuss the issues that concern the students with a view to finding solutions to them.”

“Sadly, a union without a well-attended congress of students is very far from finding solutions to issues like insecurity. Hence, we call on students to start raising the demand for a mass campaign against insecurity. Truly, those who are affected will know the essence of adequate security.”

“We, therefore, call on the NASU, SSANU, and COEASU of the college to mobilize themselves in order to find a lasting solution to the case of insecurity in the college. Some members of the staff have children who are also students of the college. Hence, a prompt intervention of the staff unions is highly essential,” he said.
