Omawumi thrills at World Food Prize ceremony

Nigerian singer, Omawumi, thrilled guests at the recently held World Food Prize Foundation ceremony, held in Des Moines, Iowa, USA.

The event, which was in partnership with President of the African Development Bank, Akinwumi Adesina, set to establish the World Food Prize Africa Institute, featured the songstress who held everyone spellbound with ‘Africa’, and ‘Butterflies’, from her ‘Timeless’ album, earning a standing ovation at the end of the performance.

According to the anchor, organisers, at the end of the year, look for music that is appropriate for a befitting finale, before picking Omawumi.

An excited Omawumi, a mother of two, said of her performance: “The response from my last performance was amazing. Thanks to everyone who watched, commented and shared. I’m deeply humbled. Thanks to the @worldfoodprize for the invitation and congratulations to Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina for being a beacon of Nigeria”.

The singer was also spotted with ex-Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo.

Born Omawumi Megbele, the Nigerian singer, songwriter and actress is a brand ambassador for top brands such as Globacom, Konga.com, and Malta Guinness.

She’s also part of the campaign called “Rise with the Energy of Africa”. Omawumi came to limelight as the runner-up of West African Idols competition in 2007.

The event follows the award of 2017 World Food Prize to Mr. Adesina, where he announced his decision to dedicate the $250,000 cash prize to providing financing for youths of Africa for agricultural development.
