Former Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa, to be sworn in as Zimbabwe’s President today

Following Robert Mugabe’s resignation yesterday which sparked joyful celebration in Zimbabwe yesterday, 75-year-old Emmerson Mnangagwa, Zimbabwe’s former vice president, who was sacked by Robert Mugabe, would be sworn in as the country’s new President today.

Mnangagwa, said to be popular amongst the powerful War Veterans group and the Zimbabwean military chiefs was sacked by Mugabe 13 days after he accused him of disloyalty and insubordination, a move reportedly made to pave way for his wife.

The new President will over see a democratic election in the country in 2018.
