Herdsmen arrested over the murder of his kinsman’s wife and child

Four Fulani herdsmen have been arrested in Ido Ani community by Ondo Police Command , in the Ose Local Government Area of the state for alleged abduction of the wife of a fellow Fulani man, Hadiza Saliu.

The suspects were also alleged to have earlier abducted the son of another Fulani herdsman in the community; but the boy was released after a ransom was paid by his father.

The state Public Relations Officer, Mr. Femi Joseph, told newsmen that the suspects were arrested last Friday.

He gave the names of the suspects as Adamu Ibrahim, Muhammadu Haruna, Saliu Bawa and Bashir Ibrahim.

Joseph explained that the suspects had confessed to be members of a kidnapping gang that had been terrorising residents of the Akoko area of the state.

He said, “One Mohammed Gambo came to report to us that the men abducted his son and he paid N200,000 before the boy was released.

“The same persons abducted another woman, Hadiza Saliu, on December 13, 2017. As they negociated the ransom with the woman’s husband, the victim ran away. Even after the victim had escaped, the abductors still called the husband for a ransom.

“After reporting to us, we asked him to provide the ransom and our men, with some local vigilance groups, laid in ambush for the kidnappers, who later came to pick up the money.”

Joseph stated further that one of the suspects, Adamu, was arrested when he went out of the bush to pick up the money.

He added that it was after the arrest that it was discovered that the same kidnap group was responsible for the abduction of Gambo’s son.

“Adamu led us to arrest other members of the gang and they confessed that most of the kidnappings in the Akoko area were carried out by their gang,” the PPRO said.

He noted that the suspects would soon appear in court.
