The new market in Owerri, Imo State was torched by some yet to be identified youth as protests over the demolishing continues.
The popular spare parts market in Owerri, New Market Owerri, was yesterday set ablaze by some arsonists thereby throwing people into panic and disarray.
An eyewitness who reported the news on social media claimed the governor of the state, Rochas Okorocha was disgraced publicly when the angry traders threw pure water sachets at his convoy.
One social media user based in Imo posted this on Facebook:
“After a confrontation between Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha and market men and women in New Market Owerri today Wednesday, 13th December, 2017, were Governor Okorocha was reportedly thrown pure water sachets for forcefully ejecting the shop owners out of business and means of livelihood by demolishing their shops.
“The governor, thereafter warned them to leave before Friday . Shockingly before the Friday deadline, New Market Owerri was this Night Set on Fire by unidentified persons.”
