Textile robbers arrested in Niger State

Two suspected robbers terrorising Sayadi Village in Wushishi Local Government Area of the state have been arrested by the Niger State Police Command on Saturday.

The suspects, Abubakar Umar, 29, and Abubakar Adamu, 22, were trailed and arrested by police operatives attached to Wushishi Division.

It was learnt that the gunmen stole a cow belonging to one Sanusi Adamu.

It  was gathered that the police acted on distress calls that the hoodlums had been making life miserable for people living in the area.

Our correspondent also gathered that the gunmen had attacked one lbrahim Abubakar of Kachi village in Wushishi, shot him in the head and made away with 35 new textiles and four bedsheets.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Peter Sunday, told SUNDAY PUNCH that police operatives apprehended the hoodlums based on a tip-off.

Sunday said the operatives recovered the 35 new wrappers, four bedsheets and a gun.

According to him, during the interrogation, the suspects confessed that they committed the crime.

One of the suspects, Umar, told our correspondent that he committed the crime due to economic hardship in the country.

The spokesperson, however, said the matter would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
