Although the origin of rice is unarguably unknown, it still doesn’t stop being the most appreciated, loved and eaten meal in every household not only in Nigeria but the world at large. It is engraved in different cultures and traditions. Weather raw, boiled, jollof or fried it is can never be rejected or under appreciated. In the Western world, rice is a symbol of fertility and good will so much so that it used to spray the bride and groom after the church ceremonies as a sign of good will and fertility. In Nigeria, rice is prepared in different form and styles. it can be boiled white and eaten with stew, vegetable and other forms of sauce. It can be eaten with fish, meat, plantain and several other condiments. It could also be mixed with sauce to become what we popularly call Jollof rice or fried with vegetables; fried rice. for every “owanbe” party, event and what-have-yous, rice is always present. In short, every and party place you go that rice is not present is not a “sure” party. Not only is rice 90% carbohydrates, 8% protein, 2% fat it is also a good source of magnesium, phosphorus, manganese, selenium, iron, folic acid, thiamine and niacin. That’s why it is mostly recommended by nutritionist as a functional part of dieting and keeping fit!
