Ibadan Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Wednesday January 24, 2018 arraigned one Alhaji Ibrahim Adesina Adeyemi before Justice M. L. Akintola of the State High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State.

He was arraigned on one-count charge bordering on stealing which is contrary to Section 390 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, and Laws of Oyo State. The defendant however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

In view of his plea, prosecution counsel, Adeola Elumaro prayed the court for a trial date. However, counsel to the defendant, Bolarinwa Lawal informed the court of an application for bail filed this morning. He thereafter prayed the court to allow the defendant remain in the EFCC’s custody pending hearing of the bail application.

Justice Akintola however, granted the defense prayer and ordered that the defendant be remanded in EFCC’s custody pending hearing of bail application. The case is adjourned to January 31st, 2018 for hearing of bail application.

Adeyemi was arraigned following a petition from a London based petitioner (name withheld) who, between January 2016 and January 2017, allegedly transferred the sum of N6, 518,228 (Six Million, Five Hundred and Eighteen Thousand, Two Hundred and Twenty-Eight Naira) to the defendant to help him buy a power generator and some Air Conditioners units and fix some at his Event Centre in Ibadan; but the defendant allegedly converted the money to personal use. All efforts made by the petitioner to get his money back were abortive.

The charge reads: “That you, Alhaji Ibrahim Adesina between 15th January, 2017 and 27th January, 2017 at Ibadan within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, converted to your personal use, the sum of N6,518,228 (Six Million, Five Hundred and Eighteen Thousand, Two Hundred and Twenty-Eight Naira) property of one Olalekan Lawal given to you, to buy Generator Set and LG Air Conditioner Units for his Event Centre at Agara Odo Eja, off Akala way, Ibadan and thereby commiting an offence.”
