The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Thursday said the indicator presented by the All Progressives Congress, APC, Federal Government in an “attempt to justify its claimed achievements” in almost three years of governance were “cooked up” and will be unhelpful to President Muhammadu Buhari at the 2019 elections.
PDP was responding to a statement issued by the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, on Wednesday in response to a statement issued by former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Tuesday criticising Mr. Buhari’s leadership style and calling on him not to seek reelection.
Mr. Obasanjo advised the president to take a “deserved rest” and urged Nigerians to vote him out should he insist on running.
In his response, Mr. Mohammed, who described Mr. Obasanjo as a patriot who meant well, however, said that in the face of massive challenges in the area of economy, the crux of Mr. Obasanjo’s worry, the “Administration has availed itself creditably”.
Mr. Mohammed also said he believed Mr. Obasanjo, who has a busy schedule and “may not have been fully availed of developments in the government’s efforts to revamp the economy, which was battered by the consequences of over-dependence on a commodity as well as unprecedented pillaging of the treasury”.
“Today, most of the indices by which an economy is measured are looking up,” Mr. Mohammed said.
