3 ‘Sacred Cows’ In Buhari’s Government

President Muhammadu Buhari

It seems like there are some government officials in President Muhammadu Buhari’s government who are untouchable no matter the number of indictment and corruption allegations against them.

In this piece by PulseNG, some of these officials are very close to Buhari and have been indicted in many allegations, still they have remained untouchable and continue to work with the President.

Here are three of those:

Prof. Usman Yusuf

1. Prof Usman Yusuf, Executive Secretary, NHIS

As Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Prof Usman Yusuf fell out with Health Minister Isaac Adewole in mid 2017.

On July 6, 2017, Adewole suspended Yusuf over fraud and clannish allegations.

However, Yusuf refused to be suspended because the suspension “was not in accordance with civil service rules”.

Yusuf has been accused of corruption to the tune of N919 million.

When a correspondent with Punch newspaper asked Yusuf to respond to the allegations against him, he blurted: “F*ck you, and f*ck the minister.”

On Tuesday, February 6, 2018, President Buhari recalled Yusuf from his suspension and reinstated him as boss of the NHIS.

Yusuf hails from the same State as Buhari.

Attorney General of Federation, Abubakar Malami

2. Abubakar Malami, Attorney General of the Federation

Nigeria’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami, has all but confessed to being behind the recall and reinstatement of Abdulrasheed Maina into the federal civil service.

Maina is the former boss of the pension reforms task force who has been on the run for allegedly defrauding pensioners of their hard earned income.

Buhari has left Malami in his role as chief law officer of the country, regardless.

Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari

3. Abba Kyari, Chief of Staff

Not a month has breezed past without Buhari’s Chief of Staff Abba Kyari being dragged in the media for one corruption allegation or the other.

Kyari has been accused of soliciting bribes in government operations, he’s been accused of demanding kickbacks and he’s been accused of trying to steal $44 million from the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) in cahoots with other top government officials.

But Buhari hasn’t lifted a finger against Kyari.
