After cutting the growth out at Hospital Mexico in San Jose, they described it as the biggest that the ward had ever seen.
The gruesome surgery took two hours and was carried out by six experienced surgeons.
Her tumour isn’t quite world record-breaking though, as a 37-year-old Chinese patient once carried a 17st tumour around with him.
Despite the magnitude of the operation, the patient is said to be recovering well.
She told the media: “It is like being born again, like coming back to reality. I am in the recovery process.
“Doctors have already explained to me that it is going to be long but how I feel now compared with how I felt before… it is like a trip between the sun and Earth.”
Sonia now hopes that she will be able to “keep on with (her) normal life) and “keep on working”.Â
