Things are however complicated, there’s the fear of deportation/ imprisonment for being there illegally, her employers would get into trouble with the Law and there’s her poor family back in Nigeria depending on her earnings and rooting for her to deliver them from the poverty stricken state. It is an emotionally gripping tale told with delicate sophistication blended with suspense, intrigue, as it unravels the turbulent path people in search of better lives outside the shores of their countries walk upon. The discovery of modern day slavery in Libya puts a seal on this accounting for a fraction of this crime which also operates in various countries.

According to RSA (also the producer of the hit movie Labo: Life is a journey) “Statistics show that at least ten people are trafficked every week into the UK facing violence, exploitation and various forms of abuse, thus the introduction of Modern Slavery Act 2015 published by the Home office. Karen Bradley, the UK Minister for Modern Slavery and Organised Crime has said ‘modern slavery is an appalling crime that has no place in today’s society. Yet these figures show it is taking place here, often out of sight, in shops, fields, building sites and behind the curtains of ordinary streets’. It is on the rise in the UK, it’s a crime and all hands must be on deck to fight this monster. In A Strange land serves to create/strengthen awareness of this problem, the consequences of perpetuating such acts and how to end the crime in our countries. This movie will aid in saving lives and stop the negative image our country and other African countries have projected to the world”

Roseline is optimistic that the clarion call to fight the menace will be heeded by many in the country and around the world. The movie was sponsored by the Film Department of Portsmouth University and supported by the Nigeria High Commission, Nigeria Army (Defense Department), Anti Slavery Commissioner, AFRUCA Children’s charity, Human Trafficking Foundation, Home office, Medview Airline international, London Borough of Enfield, all in the UK.

This visually captivating and thought provoking movie is certainly worth watching. In A Strange Land is powered by Roseline Sanni Ajose’s ‘Inspiration Production’, distributed by Metro Classic Pictures and will be released in cinemas across Nigeria from March 2nd 2018.
