Friends mourn and pay tribute as pretty NYSC member who was killed by a train in Lagos is buried (PHOTOS)

The burial ceremony of the young of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Nneka Odili, who died last thursday, from the severe injuries she sustained after a train hit her at Ikeja, Lagos took place over the weekend.

It was gathered that the tragic incident occurred while the victim, fondly called Nini, was heading home after the monthly clearance exercise at the Ikeja Local Government Secretariat.

According to eyewitnesses, the deceased wore headphones and so, did not hear the train’s horn while trying to walk across the rail track. She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where she later died.

Odili studied Home Economics at the Federal College of Education Technical, Omoku, Rivers State and later went to study Human Kinetics at the University of Port Harcourt.

Late Odili was laid to rest on Sunday, March 11, in her hometown, Ndoni in Rivers State.

A family member, Tammy Orunaboka, debunked reports that she was using a mobile phone when she was hit by the train.

Nneka Odili goes home this afternoon at Ndoni in Rivers State. May her soul rest in peace. The stories about her death were all false. The NYSC Lagos office has released the correct story that lead to her death. She has no sophisticated phone in life and was not using sophisticated phone as reported by some news paper. Please let us always try to get our news correctly before going to the public.

In a Facebook post, her colleague Abubakar Rukayat, described Odili’last painful moment.
We lost one of our own yesterday 8th March 2018 by a train when crossing the railway at ikeja. Please let try and use our earpiece wisely, she had earpiece on and didn’t notice d train….. someone tried to push her off then she jumped into d train unknowingly.when rushed to the hospital all she was saying was BLOOD OF JESUS until she died .R.i.p Nneka odili.

REST IN PEACE, DEBORAH NNEKA ODILI
This is how I want to remember you ,not the gory image I saw of you…
Even though we got to know each other over a short while, I believe fate had a reason to have brought us together.

You were a strong , energetic, prolific, able-bodied , smart and beautiful young lady who had so many dreams and aspirations.

Your smile alone could melt a stone heart, a very jovial colleague and friend.
I still remember how everyone loved you the very day I brought you to the office in search of a PPA, your height, beauty and humble personality amazed all and because of these qualities, they gave you a request letter without hesitation. We were all looking forward to seeing more of an amazing person you were.
If only I knew the tasty lunch you bought me that day was going to be my last with you, I would have insisted we ate the food till eternity.
If only you knew yesterday’s clearance would be your last, you would have just remained at home.
My only regret is not telling you to your face how wonderful a person you were and how much I loved your personality.
When I heard the news of a corps member who was crushed by a train @Ikeja along, I felt really bad but little did I know that my own DEBORAH was the unfortunate victim
Death wasn’t nice to you at all..
Yesterday was indeed a black Thursday for every corps member in Lagos, especially those of us @ikeja 2 LCDA and those of us who knew you one on one.
Although many blamed you for your death but as far as I am concerned, your death wasn’t ordinary because even if they claimed you had an earphone on both ears which made you not to hear the sound of the train, then what happened to your sense of feeling, I know how a train shakes it’s environs with vibrations when passing, the horn of a train, especially that type @ikeja along which crushed you , could bring someone who is not properly dead back to life, so how come you couldn’t feel the vibration or hear the sound of the oncoming training? You couldn’t also see people moving their goods/wares and running away from the railway?

Mhhheeennn… I have so many unanswered questions in my mind right now. It won’t be nice for anyone to blame you at all.

I wonder how your parents and family would take this big loss but in all, I pray the Almighty God gives them the fortitude to bear the great loss.

Goodnight my vibrant colleague…

Adieu Nwa bu so MMA

Continue to rest in peace Deborah Nneka Odili.

Till we meet to part no more.
