Real Madrid coach, Zinedine Zidane has explained why he did not feature winger, Gareth Bale in the club’s 2-1 win against Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-final first leg clash on Wednesday night at the Allianz Arena.

Zidane left the Welsh international on the bench and started Marco Asensio, who eventually scored the winning goal for the La Liga champions.

Zidane, however, said he did not play Bale because the Los Blancos are still relying on him for the rest of this season.

Asked why he did not play Bale in Real Madrid’s win against Bayern, Zidane told television reporters, “I have to make choices and I’ve got some very good players in the squad.

“There are some players who are performing well at the moment.

“There are still more games to come and I’ll be relying on him. It’s not true that I don’t play him.”
